November 10th, 2011

Your house might have been staged and it’s ready to market, but maybe you have overlooked your backyard. Remember that you also have to take care of your backyard and give it a well-spruce look because it’s still part of the house. It’s an advantage that prospective buyers see your effort that you are really taking care of your house by assessing your backyard, and as the matter of fact, it also reflects to your personality. When selling your home or homes in east cobb ga, here are some of the things that you must understand in considering the importance of your backyard.

As long as it’s pleasant to look at, it’s okay if you have a plain backyard.

One of the things that you should understand is not to go overboard in your yard and don’t take it personally. For example, you like a Japanese garden, but it could be a hard for you to find a prospective buyers who also loves a Japanese garden. Prospective buyers are too meticulous and demanding in finding the right homes for sale in kennesaw, so you have to be aware of the type of house that most buyers want (considering the backyard).

It doesn’t mean that if you want to upgrade your yard, you also have to spend money. It only means that your yard should also balance with your house and also looks equally with the other houses. Your house must have nice yards like any other houses.

You should also have a yard that it’s like taken care of. Many home owners are tired of mowing their lawn and watering their grass. So, if you want to have the best chance of selling your house like in buckhead ga homes, make sure that your prospective buyers appreciate your effort. The main thing is, no one wants to buy a house that as if the previous owner didn’t care for it, and the yard is a part of the house that buyers also assess.

6 steps for transforming your garden

November 6th, 2011

After finding the perfect home in Singapore property market, the next thing you will do is to take a look at the garden of your new property. Is it according to your liking? Is it beautiful just like the house? Does it compliment with the whole image of the property or does it need a little transformation to enhance the appeal of  your newly acquired Singapore property.

Well, the following are  six major steps you should follow to transform your garden into something you really like. All these steps should be followed  before selecting or buying plants.

1 Clear up the garden. Remove all unwanted plants, rotting fences and unwanted debris; if it is new, clear away any rubble that may have been left behind by the builder.  Find a place where you can put bricks, lumps of concrete and old stones to be used  later as paths, edging or foundations to any walls and patios.

2 Dig under  the ground, and if  necessary remove pieces of brick, weeds, old timber and rotting tree roots. Install or renovate boundary walls, fences and hedges.

3 Make or repair  permanent fixtures that was added to the building like  internal walls, pools, paths, steps, seating areas, garden buildings and the  play areas.   Install if necessary outside plumbing and electrical fittings, or make future provision for them by laying conduits before constructing paths and paved areas.

4 Mark out and do the  digging in   the planting areas, removing all weeds and incorporating organic material such as garden compost or well-rotted manure. Allow time for any soil you have dug or moved to settle naturally before planting hedges, trees, large shrubs and key plants (using tree stakes and ties where necessary).

5 The best time to plant is in spring or autumn. Mark out the lawn areas, dig over, remove weeds and stones . Make it as compact as possible, then rake again and apply  fertilizer before seeding or turfing. Avoid stepping on it  or use boards if you have to walk on it.

6 Add the finishing touches. Position any statues and wall ornaments, wall fountains, containers and garden furniture.   At the appropriate time of the year, plant the smaller shrubs, herbaceous perennials, annuals and bulbs. Clean and fill the garden pool, add plants after one week and  fish two weeks after.

Seldom Considered Criteria for Buying a Home

August 1st, 2011

Buyers always consider the price of homes, and how the home “feels”. But, there are also factors that buyers won’t even think about until after closing. Here are a few home shopping tips to consider if you want to make sure you enjoy the use of your time in your new home.

The Direction The Home Faces. The direction your house faces can make a big difference in your enjoyment of every day living. During summer evenings, the sun beats relentlessly on the West Side of houses. If you plan on spending your summer evenings enjoying your backyard, then you do not want an Eastward facing house without big shade trees.

For areas like Potomac MD Real Estate, that have cold winters with snow and ice, the direction the property faces can increas  safety and minimize shoveling. Driveways of southerly facing Bloomington MN, Homes melt very quickly. For light snow storms, shoveling isn’t even required as the snow is usually entirely melted by the time you get home from work. Houses that face the North, see almost no sun on cold winter days.

Do it Yourself “Projects”. Many first time home buyers buy houses that aren’t in a condition where they can genuinely be happy. They figure that with a little help from the Home Depot, they can do some repairs or upgrades to get things the way they desire. Shortly after starting a do it your self project, homeowners almost always come to the realization that it will take a lot longer than planned. They often find that all their free time is exhausted on home improvement projects. If you like being a handyman, then fixer uppers are recommended. If you don’t know, you’re probably better off to purchase a house that is already in the condition you want.

Yard Care and Maintenance. Most first time buyers move from apartment complexes where others take care of the yard. Taking care of a large yard, flower beds and gardens, can be very time consuming. If you know you enjoy yard work, and have plenty of free time, then this won’t be an issue. If you already don’t have enough time to do all the things you want to do, then you probably want to stay away from high maintenance yards.

Weeds grow, like weeds, and can be out of control if they are overlooked for just a few days. If weeding isn’t something you will make time to regularly do, then stay away from yards with large garden areas. Automatic sprinklers, small flower beds and garden areas, and perennial plants are a few things to look for if you desire minimal yard maintenance.

Buying your first home is an important experience. It is where you will spend the majority of your time. Don’t rush the home buying process; carefully consider how your life will be impacted if you were to buy and live in any of the homes you look at.

Garden Pots and Planters

July 10th, 2011

Garden Pots and Planters for Gardening People might be surprised at what they can grow in garden pots and planters. Most shorter stemmed flowers, herbs, many smaller vegetable plants and greens all grow nicely in pots of all sizes. Container gardening is a popular hobby in North America. Because planters and containers do not take up very much space, they can grace a deck, patio or balcony. Some people place them indoors in front of windows or in sunrooms and conservatories. People enjoy growing flowers and maybe a few cucumbers or peppers on their front or back porch. Of course, those with plants in containers will want to follow directions for planting and care of individual plants for best growing results and, then, they can enjoy watching plants grow in their garden pots and planters.

Small, Garden Pots Planters as an example of small planters, some homes have attached planters, called window boxes, outside under some of the windows. These can be filled with any number of flowers for almost year-around blooms. In the early spring and late summer, pansies in window boxes will continue to bloom until temperatures remain below freezing or remain extremely hot. During the rest of the summer, geraniums, marigolds, and other flowers with a low-growing habit can keep the boxes cheerful. Besides flowers, small pots and planters can grow herbs like basil, mint, and oregano. They can grow decorative cabbage and kale or bulb flowers like tulips and daffodils.

Large, Patio, Garden Pots Planters many vegetables can grow in garden pots and planters. Determinate varieties of tomatoes are a popular container plant, as are cucumbers and peppers. Most squashes and herbs do well in container gardens. For vegetables, the pot or planter should be at least larger that one foot square, but half barrels and pots that are much larger than a foot will yield better results.

Gardening Advantages

One of the best advantages to growing plants in pots and planters is the joy that comes from growing things even in small spaces. Because container gardening is much more compact than grow boxes or traditional gardens, they give people opportunity to grow something even if they cannot grow an entire garden or do not have the room for one. Other benefits might be that plants are less prone to diseases, are less bothered by weeds, and are less effort to grow.

Grow a Vegetable Garden with this guide

June 23rd, 2011
vegetables

Image via Wikipedia

A vegetable plot in your Calgary Gardening Landscapes is one of the best way to beautify your garden. Aside the fact that edible crops can save you money from buying in the supermarket.

Step 1

What are the vegetables that you like to eat?Choose those that are tasty especially when they’re ripe. You can have jasmines, sugar corn, cinnamon, curry leaf and tomatoes.

Step 2

Have an area of level ground in your Gardening Calgary Landscaping where the sun can easily shine.Break up and turn the soil and add compost or other organic material. A whole day of sweltering temperature would be needed for vegetables to ripe in the last periods of winter and early spring.

Step 3

Figure out how much growing space you have and plant accordingly.  You can have the lettuce in a nice solid mat while the sweet corn can be 45 cm apart. Pumpkins can be grown with four feet of space. You can find these information in the labels of seed packages and garden catalogs.

Step 4

Choose crops that require less room if you have a small vegetable garden or grow vegetables in a container. Lettuce is a great pot plant, and ‘Patio’ or ‘Tumbler’ tomatoes will grow well in a hanging basket. Plants that climb and vine, such as cucumbers and pole beans, can be trained up a trellis to take up less room horizontally. Tuck herbs and parsley into flower beds.

Step 5

Schedule plantings around the two main growing seasons which vary by region: cool (spring and fall) and warm (summer). Turnips, potatoes, cauliflower, spinach, lettuce and broccoli are those which you can plant in the winter season. Warm-season crops include beans, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, melons, peppers, pumpkins, squash and tomatoes.

Step 6

Sow some seeds directly in the ground as they grow best that way: beans, beets, carrots, chard, corn, lettuce, melons, peas, pumpkins, squash and turnips. Starting seeds is, of course, much less expensive than planting seedlings sold in flats, packs and pots.

Step 7

If you’re just a beginner in vegetable gardening, it would be better to plant the nursery seedlings. Broccoli, eggplant, cabbage, tomatoes and cauliflowers are just some of the nursery seedlings you can use. Squash and cucumbers are among a few you can plant just as effectively as either seeds or seedlings.

Step 8

Buy seeds at nurseries or by mail order starting just after the New Year, when the selection is freshest. Find those packages for the present year.

Step 9

You can look online for the crops that you want your garden. Also, some websites give you the option to order in some online form.

Step 10

Shop for seedlings when your soil is prepared and you are ready to plant.

Let the soil be dank and temperate. Ensure it would not be dry in three days.

Buy healthy and vigorous seedlings. The signs that they are good should be their green leaves with no holes (caused by insects).

Shop in Pond Pump Supplies Store for some fish pond supplies as well for your garden pond. These are necessary supplies too for the overall efficiency of your garden.

Landscaping Ideas – Ideas and Designs for Your Garden and Home

May 25th, 2011
Landscape design,

Image by La Citta Vita via Flickr

Many front yard Calgary Gardens Landscapes are simply boring.   While you don’t want to do anything that would get you kicked out of the homeowner’s association, you can still have an interesting and unique design.   Following are some tips.

Cobblestones, Rocks and Boulders

When you see a boulder in the lawn of your garden, could it be that the landscape was part of the home at the onset.   It might be true.   But, if the boulder seems to fit just right, it was probably placed there by a Gardening Landscaping Consultant Calgary.

I have used these tips landscaping Calgary for over a decade. It is important to have a good landscape design Calgary so that you may implement these tips.

Why not buy natural rocks, reprocessed bricks, sandstone spheres, slate stacks and granite boulders from suppliers.   Many stores can deliver your orders for free.

There are several advantages to decorating with rock.   First, the stones provide protection against erosion, but require no watering.  Second, they help prevent weeds from growing.  Lastly, they do look exceptional.

The pathway and front porch can have paving stones that are interlinked, instead of concrete.   If you look at some of the online pictures of completed projects, you have to agree that interlocking pavers are much more attractive than conventional materials.

Using pavers is one of the front yard landscaping ideas that will save you money in the future.   Ice expansion will not cause them to crack.   They will even give during an earthquake instead of crumbling.

You can use inter-locked stones ( without the mortar) for waterfalls, flower beds and retaining walls.   Expand your horizons, for most definitely, ideas are immeasurable.

Organic shrubs, Trees and Flowers

Though some people would dissent, too many flowers in the garden is not a good idea.   Herbs are not only attractive.   They are fragrant and can be used in the kitchen.

For inimitable ideas for your garden landscape, ask other garden owners about removing most of the grass.   ”Barefoot lawn” can be a landscape model, try others.

Some of them are quite lovely.

The home owners that have decided to go grassless make use of ornamental grasses, flowering ground cover and evergreen shrubs like boxwoods.

Boxwoods are a hardy drought-resistant plant that can be used to create a hedge and block traffic noise.

Shrub lighting’s would be suitable for the green landscape and it’s definitely elegant.

Why not do a Pond Algaecide supply store search, you’ll find landscaping ideas for sure.

If you want a pond, there are many places you can fish good koi fish pond supplies

More than anything, seek other home owners for better insights.

Landscape Design – Should you tackle it yourself?

March 16th, 2011
Landscape Design

Image by Scott McKittrick via Flickr

So  you have finally decided to redesign your backyard and give it a new look by adding landscape design?

What qualifies me to give you information?

I am from Calgary Alberta, Canada. I have been involved with Calgary Landscape Design for quite a few years. Landscape Design, done properly is art, plain and simple.

There are many options available that will definitely make you stop and think. You can opt for a redesigning anything from your patio to your entire backyard

The next question naturally becomes should I hire a  Landscape Designer, or do the design yourself?

Many people are not artisticially inclined, therefore it is tought to draw a yard if you don’t have the feel for it.

For some reason, some things just look good, while not the same can be said for others. It is hard to put into words really, but it is very true.

However, you need to be very cautious while designing your landscape because even the smallest wrong line can effect the entire design.

The problem with this is that on paper, you can make a mistake erase and then redraw. When designing a project weather it be a  Calgary landscaping project or not, it is not so easy sometimes.

What I recommend in such situation is to hire a professional in the field who can offer you numerous options for your project

Some question to see if you are designed to be a  Landscape Designer….

1) Can you draw?

As a professional landscape designer you will need to be good at scale drawing.

It is important to see the shape of your yard BEFORE you start to build. Think of the drawing in stone analogy.

You need to take precise measurements of your backyard before you start designing and ultimately building the landscape. Just imagine the problem if you build a new patio but it is not big enough for the smallest table in your home!

Technological advancements have spread its feet in every field. You can take advantage of the advancements by buying a software program that can help you in designing the right landscape for your backyard. The best thing about these software is they are extremely easy to use.

2) What is your plant knowledge?

One of the biggest tragedies of older neighborhoods is that they have to cut down beautiful and matured plants especially trees due to the space they consume

A professional landscaper will help you in investing in plants on long term basis. For example a tree can take up to 25 years to mature completely and hence you can invest in them without fear of losing your investment for a long time.

Plants need to harmonize with the natural surrounding landscape.

This will not only allow the plants to grow but also give give a fresher look to your landscape.

In the area in which I live, there are many beautiful Calgary Garden Gardens in Calgary. The best Gardens all had a sound plan!

If you think that it Landscape redesigning is an easy task then you are wrong because it is a special project you are investing time in so that your family can enjoy it in future.

Most importantly, have fun!

Garden Mulch – Use it to Control Soil Erosion!

February 20th, 2011
Spring daffodils in fresh shredded wood mulch ...

Image via Wikipedia

There are many elements in consideration when you are finding the right mulch for your garden landscape. The argument can be understood by showing to you the standards of the different garden mulches.

Before we delve deeper, let’s try to answer a basic question a landscaping beginner would raise: Does mulch covering affect soil pH at all? More particularly, would the soil pH of your garden be diminished to some extent when you apply mulch?

The composition of your soil pH has a hefty impact on plant health. It’s logical that many people, including myself, have expressed unease on how garden mulch selection affects the soil pH, since it does influences the ground as it decomposes. Does using pine needles in your landscape mulch lead to your garden soil withering away? What about having oak leaves as mulch in your garden?

A popular belief of landscape professionals is that garden mulch has insignificant changes in the pH composition of your loam. For instance, while oak-leaf garden mulch may be acidic when fresh, most experts now say that it becomes more and more alkaline as it decomposes. In addition, based on latest gardening journals, garden mulch comprised with pine needles softens the soil pH to imperceptible degree, at any rate.

With the question of the potential impact of garden mulch on soil pH out of the way, let’s reflect on some other issues surrounding garden mulch selection — some of which are quantifiable, others of which boil down to personal landscaping preferences. Since a garden mulch can rate higher in one class only to perform poorly in another, we would then have to make a decision. Two obvious uses of garden mulch to which the reader will find little or no reference in this article are weed suppression and erosion control. They have not been included for a simple fact: a garden mulch done perfectly will eliminate weeds and erosion altogether.

Here are the three main frameworks of our discussions.

* “Insulation value in summer” is judged by the degree to which the garden mulch can keep the soil beneath cool and moist. A notable summer insulator will both lessen your need for watering and it guards the roots against severe heat.

* The problem of whether or not clearing away the garden mulch  in spring depends on the fact that abundant garden mulches can suffocate developing spring buds. This is clearly a non-factor for plants that is growing above ground. But even the latter can profit from having the soil around their roots warmed by the spring sun, a process facilitated by the temporary removal of the garden mulch. With regards to plastic sheet mulch, this factor is non-relevant since the material have holes that gives access to the plants.

* “Nourishment and aeration afforded to underlying soil by decomposition” is a standard used to distinguish the different landscape mulches. Though don’t be mistake the term “nourishment” into thinking that garden mulch and compost are the same.

Think Fresh in Landscape Design – Try a Pergola or an Arbor!

February 5th, 2011
A pergola in a garden in Oregon, USA.

Image via Wikipedia

Garden structures like arbors and pergolas can provide intrigue to your Calgary Gardens Landscapes Design.   Arbors and pergolas augments the aesthetics of your yard for it invites the eye to look up.   These structures enhances your garden in many ways like embellishment and functionality.

Calgary Gardening landscaping Designer may have been wondering if there’s any difference at all between a pergola and an arbor.    Even if there are no concurrence on this, the arbor is a small architecture which has an arch on top, with a measurement that stands 6 1/2 to 9 feet at the summit.   Arbors are often placed over walkways or a gate in a fence.   Pergolas, in the meanwhile, has a flat top at the crossing of the straight sides it rests on.   Pergolas ranges in adaptable sizes, just small enough to hover the pathway, to large enough size to span a whole deck.

I living in Calgary, Alberta Canada and I always try to incorporate an arbor or pergola when I create a Calgary Landscape Design.

Materials for arbors and pergolas vary greatly and can include wood, vinyl, or metal.   Wood provides a more natural look to your arbor or pergola, which can be stained as an alternative to improve its appearance.   Using wood can save you in your expenses, but it won’t last long as steel or vinyl.   Some concerns with wood structures include rotting, splintering, and decay caused by wood boring pests.

Vinyl, on the other hand, is a great maintenance free option that won’t require painting or staining.   Vinyl is also resistant to rot and decay, and will last much longer than wood.   Vinyl is much expensive than wood  and its dependable in the course of time.  If you go for vinyl, choose those which are UV resistant so it won’t fade in sun exposure.

Metal can also be a good material choice from a Pond and waterfall equipment design supplies store because it’s very durable and long lasting.    Though, you have to choose with caution the type of metal in your structure.  Steel or iron usually rust, which something you don’t want in your garden structure.   But if you still prefer metal, use aluminum which has been proven as a rust free metal.   Try to have a metal with a powder coat finish if you want a painted look.

We use all types of materials when doing a Landscape Design in Calgary. It just really depends on what your preference is, no matter where you live.

Having structures in your garden is a great way to bring in a focal point in your landscape design.   They will enhance your garden’s aesthetics and add a vertical element to spaces that are usually constructed on horizontal planes.   Structures like arbors and pergolas can turn an ordinary looking garden into something full of symmetry and beauty which your visitors would surely take pleasure in.

I have a lot of fun with Calgary Landscape Design, and no matter where you live it is important to take the unique canvass you have available to you to be as creative as possible!
